Thomas Corkhill Harrap
Thomas Harrap was born in 1883, the youngest son of Henry and Sarah (Bennett) Harrap.
Sarah’s parents, William and Sarah Bennett, owned 13 acres next to the old school in Dunns Road.
Henry Harrap and his brother, Edmund, were early settlers at Green Island.
Green Island was an area that could be approached along tracks, that later became Dunns Road, and Racecourse Road.
Henry, who was also a Cab Owner, farmed his property there.
In 1887, when Tom Harrap was four, his father died.
The three younger children Florence, Frank and Tom attended the school in Dunns Road, and Tom worked in the area all his life.
In 1905, he married Margaret Thorne, had two children, and lived on five acres in Bay Street, Green Island.
Bay Street has been renamed Harrap Rd, after the family that lived there for so long.
Frank and Tom were champion footballers - Frank once being called the best footballer on the Peninsula. He was also a champion diver.
Tom won many footraces and bicycle races that were held at the sports meetings of the time.
The brothers were also accomplished musicians and played with the local town band.
Tom and his wife Margaret are buried in the Mornington Cemetery.
