James McLellan

Sketch of the "Ticoneroga".

James was born in 1832, in Stirlingshire Scotland, the eldest child of Andrew and Margaret McLellan.

He arrived in Australia in 1852 with his father, his brother Alexander and sisters Janet and Agnes, on the fever ship "Ticonderoga".

Immigrants of the time had to perform at least one year’s employment on arrival, but the survivors of the "Ticonderoga" had only to serve three months.

James was employed for that time by Jessie Mile of Indented Heads. After that, he left to rejoin his family in Schnapper Point.

He married Jane Dobson in 1864 and they had no children.

They lived on at the family farm at Moorooduc for the rest of their lives.
Both James and Jane are buried in the Mornington Cemetery.
