David Claud Pender

David Pender was born in Scarsdale, Victoria, to Claud and Janet (Haig) Pender on 24 October, 1883. He served in the First World War, with the 10th Field Company Engineers.
David was wounded in France before being repatriated home.

Pender's Newsagency

His two brothers Lt. John Pender and Lt. James Pender also served overseas. David married Lillie Maud Searle in 1921, and they were employed in running a News agency in North Carlton for three years.

They then moved with young son Frank, in 1924, to run the News agency in Main Street Mornington. It was here that son Max was born in 1925.

David was to run the business until his sudden death in 1941, aged 56 years. David was accorded a Military funeral at Mornington Cemetery, with a bugler from Balcombe Army Camp playing Reveille and the Last Post.

Mrs. Pender and her sons ran the News agency for many years until Max was killed in a car accident in 1963.

Max is buried with his parents at Mornington.
